Prevision
Rhapsody for Brass Band
Dedicated to my grandson Erik
Prevision has been composed in a free fantasy form. I have musically depicted the growing up of my first grandson. Deep in thought, I sketched my prevision: the development of a small boy growing up to be an adult. After a brilliant introduction, a slow march follows, symbolizing the first steps toward adulthood. Aspects like love and a sense of security – indispensable for positive development – are presented in a calm middle part, after which an energetic closing part refers to the rebelliousness of an adolescent. While exploring boundaries, sometimes the wrong choices are made, but after a number of conflict situations, more stability occurs. The grand finale of Prevision expresses my positive picture of the future.
