A Discovery Fantasy
Composed in 1993 on commission from the N.I.B. foundation, with support from the Fund for Creative Musical Arts

A Discovery Fantasy is based on the theme tune of the TV series “In Search of Music”. This program, which aired on Dutch television from 1986 to 1988, was partly created by me. It took viewers to a specific place or region, introducing them to a wide variety of musical practices.
While composing A Discovery Fantasy, I kept this successful TV program in mind. The theme tune is followed by three distinct movements—a bolero, a rondo, and a romantic intermezzo—and, just like the television program, the piece concludes with the theme tune.
